NO LIGHTS NO LYCRA | OLGA BENNETT
I recently stumbled upon the wonderful photographer Olga Bennett and her beautiful blog! I particularly love these outtake images from a shoot she did with No lights No lycra (NLNL), a very very cool dance community formed in Melbourne (and now all over the world!).
There is no light, no lycra, no teacher, no steps to learn, no technique, just free movement. NLNL is a space where you can completely let go, shake out the sresses of the week, and lose yourself in the music and the physicality of your body. NLNL is a daggy, non-pretentious place to completely be yourself.
Check out this video to see what they’re talking about (sorta actually not really – this is a choreographed music video for Otouto featuring NLNL dancers – but boy do they look cool!). Also, for a definition of daggy (what the?) visit this link.

The concept of free movement reminds me of my spiritual practice in Subud. Our form of worship is free-form, surrendered and inspired movement. It is indeed a delicious state of being at one with the universe!
That sounds wonderful! In high school my pals and I would do a lot of free movement/interpretive dancing at events. It always felt so great!
